Sachin crosses 30K!

Sachin Tendulkar has scored 30,000 runs in international cricket. Is it something to cherish? Well not really according to me. This is one more statistics to his marvelous career. Run scoring has been his forte and he has been doing that for the last two decades. Anyone playing for that long is bound to score that many, if not more.

The greater fact is that this man is able to play that long! Now, tell me how many of us will be doing the same thing over and over again for two decades? Being in a software field, I'd expect to do different things every now and again. Ie., you can't expect me to be doing the rigmarole things for long. ie., writing the code, validating it etc., this kind of routine gets monotonous and leads to boredom. But, look at what Sachin has done, he has been doing literally the same thing for over two decades, without any complaints. I'd just admire him for this mere fact.

There are critics who come up with a thing or two every time he crosses a milestone or breaks (now a days he is creating) records. They call him a run gatherer/accumulator like Sunil Gavaskar rather than the aggressor, like Richards,Lara et.al., The great Kapil Dev has called him thus. Although, he didn't mean it to belittle Sachin he has expressed what many of Sachin's fans would like to see him as. We expect the Sachin Tendulkar to blast away the attacks and (as Ravi Shastri will call it) catch the bowlers by the scruff of the neck. This is a wish of a fan but it is merely that. We need to understand what toil his body has undergone for all these years, the amount of surgeries he has undergone. These definitely affect ones strength and strategy. He is no more the young boy-wonder and his body is no longer getting younger for sure! Let us just admire his batting and wish for many more memories from him. I consider myself privileged enough to be able to watch this man in 'live' action during my lifetime. We'll only feel the void only upon his retirement.
