Babri Masjid

The Liberhan report is out and it points fingers at the top BJP leadership being responsible for the Babri Masjid demolition on December 6, 1992. It further states the inaction of the then chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Kalyan singh to be one of the main culprits of the demolition exercise. What is more interesting is that it has named the BJP's top 3 leaders (Vajpayee, Advani and Murali Manohar Joshi) as 'pseudo-moderates' of this demolition.

Well, the report has no new findings. I think, after 17 years of the act, many of us know mostly what is given in the report and many knew the involvement of the BJP/RSS and other Hindu groups in this activity. What does this report submission mean to the country now? Well, this doesn't bring in the communal harmony into the region and it doesn't aim at resolving the issue too. All it will help in is to get the parliament hours to discuss this issue and make the citizens look like a fool.

It is one of the best tricks played by the politicians of the country. When there are many pressing issues that needs solutions, the ruling party has decided to table this report today in the parliament for discussion. The ruling party is right now being questioned on the sugarcane crisis by the opposition parties and they had staged a dharna too. The ruling parties response is to divert the people's attention to this 'new' issue. This will also end up being one of the 'hot' topics being debated for a week or so and will be conveniently forgotten. Who really needs to care about solving the Babri Masjid issue? What will be their gains out of solving such issue? The politician's vote bank lies only as long as there are unresolved issues. They will play around by siding with the more influential side and get their vote kitty.

The same congress, under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi, laid the foundation stone on Ayodha to bring 'Ram-Rajiya'. He also symbollically started his election campaign in 1989 @ Ayodha to clarify his stand. Now, the same party is siding with the Muslims and trying to potray their sympathies to them. Well, I rest with this and don't want to dwell much more on this. I'll say that both sides are wrong and there seems to be no correct option that will satisfy both.

Now, what is the solution to this problem? Will building a Ram temple at the place bring in communal harmony (as BJP is suggesting)? or Will building the Masjid back in the place make Hindu and Muslim live in peace in that place (as the Muslim leaders suggests)? I feel neither will bring in a communal harmony to that place. As any of the solution above is unacceptable to the other side. So, what I'd suggest is to do any of the following:
  1. Demolish any religious symbol to that place and build a park or library in that place that will be useful to the common public.
  2. Make the place as a common worship place, ie., it is open to all prayer hall and anyone from any religious/community can come and pray there.
I'll side with the first solution. There are enough Ram temples and masjids here and one less doesn't make any difference. There were no prayers offered here for a long time so it is not something that the worshipping public will miss any way.

I rest my case.
