Greg does it again!

With the world cup debacle for India getting slowly forgotten, there is one more deamon opened up by our great coach Greg! I have admired his stern and straight forward approach to the Indian cricket. I thought he will bring in the much needed professionalism into this Indian squad. With a focus on grooming youngsters and experimentation policy India were on a high with consecutive victories (read in the subcontinent conditions !) in the initial phase of Greg's coaching. Everything seemed to have fallen into place, with the exception of the Ganguly saga, and everything looked bright for the Indian cricket team.

Now then, I think everything started deteriorating after the 'disastorous' tour to West Indies where the Indians were beaten 4-1 in the ODI series. This really set the tone for the decline of the team's performance and it seems like a never ending story. It has really upset whatever plans the captain and coach had for the world cup campaign. Suddenly, all the youngsters were found wanting and the selectors had no other go rather than bring back the 'seniors'.

All was well with the team beating the West Indies and then the Srilanka in the home ODI series and were on a high when they set foot on the West Indies. With convincing wins in the warm up games, it set the right stage for the world cup campaign.

And now, here we are with two big losses and team back home devastated, still wondering what had hit them.. As if all this is not enough, we now start hearing the coach's displeasure with the team. He has every right to feel unhappy with the team's performance as like any other person. But what is more concerning is his 'leaking' of the WC report. He can very well rest his case with the BCCI and show his displeasure etc,. but why on earth is he using the media to make-know his displeasure with the team.

Calling the senior players 'mafia' and undermining the captain are uncalled for. Although, it might be true, but why should he raise this in public? This should have been handled more diplomatically as these sort of allegations will definitely raise the ire of the concerned players. Yes, every one in this team (including the great Sachin Tendulkar) are unsure of their places and its quite understandable (doesn't mean it is acceptable!) for them to do anything to retain their place in the squad.

Of course, this is not the first time that Greg has done this. He did a similar thing in the Ganguly saga, after the tour of Zimbabwe. The report was 'leaked' much before it reached the BCCI. He had lot of gains from that leak though. It projected him as a hard-task master with genuine interest in the Indian team etc., But now, by doing it again, it only shows him in poor light. I pray all these 'leaks' are hoax, played up by media and not the real statements of Greg.

With everyone in the team not performing to their potential, its really the overall team fault rather than any individual(s). I'm sorry Greg, you can't keep doing like this. There are better ways to tune the cricketers..As the saying goes 'Don't wash the dirty linen in public'. We are already sad (devastated) with the Indian team exit from the World cup, don't make it even worse by 'leaking' such allegations.
